Everyone gets overwhelmed at times. I’m feeling it right now. When you are ambitious in your businesses and your goals, it can be hard to find time to slow down. Entrepreneurship comes with both blessings and curses. Yes, you get to make your own schedule – but nobody’s going to cover your work while you’re gone either. Overwhelm is inevitable, but I’m going to share three ways you can overcome it and get yourself back on track.
The first trick is to embrace power hours. We often overestimate how much time it’s going to take to get caught up. What feels like days of work can usually be accomplished in just a few hyper focused work hours. We make it bigger in our heads. If you just carve out a few power hours, you can get caught up and take away that overwhelm in no time. If you’re having trouble finding the time, try waking up an hour early and just getting things done while you’re sharp, fresh, and focused. You don’t have to permanently adjust your schedule, but a temporary change will make a huge impact.
The second thing to do is to know your numbers. In order to build a massive company, you need to know how much your company gets bought out at. That’s usually related to the amount of sales you make yearly. By knowing your numbers, you can put your goal into perspective. It shows you that the path there is not as scary as it seems.
Lastly, make sure you live on a schedule. Overwhelm often isn’t a symptom of having too much work – it’s a matter of feeling like you have too much work. The truth of the matter is that overwhelm comes from not seeing a clear path towards meeting your deadlines. Once you know where your work fits within a schedule it takes away the overwhelm.
The biggest thing you need to combat overwhelm is perspective: knowing your schedule, knowing how much time things really take, and knowing how close you truly are to being all caught up. Overwhelm is miserable, but you don’t have to sit in it forever. With these three tips you’ll be over it in no time at all.
